The New Mexican Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

While the Old West shows or movies usually focus on gunslingers, they tend to forget what most folks did, which was farm and ranch. Aside from miners, farmers and ranchers were the backbone of the Old West. The New Mexican Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum seeks to help keep the knowledge of that aspect of western settlement alive.

A Guided or Self Tour

When you’re visiting the Museum, open seven days a week, you can opt to explore on your own or take a guided tour that might help you notice some of the more obscure aspects. Some of the attractions that you can see are animals, a dairy barn, livestock tours, greenhouse and gardens, as well, as different exhibits.

Animals onsite include beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and donkeys. You can also head over to the Blacksmith Shop, Friday through Sunday, and see how metal is forged into tools and other items. Nearby are demonstrations of wool spinning, sewing, weaving, and quilting.
